In the Loop 4
Knitting – from Craft to Couture
University of Glasgow, Scotland – 26, 27, 28 August 2015
Call for Papers
The fifth interdisciplinary and international In the Loop conference will be held at the University of Glasgow 26-28 August 2015 in association with the School of Humanities and the RSE funded ‘Knitting in the Round’ project. To reflect the place of Scotland in the history of knitting and the city of Glasgow in the world of fashion, our theme – from Craft to Couture – encompasses the range of applications of knit in the past present and future and in a variety of contexts.
Proposals for papers are invited from practitioners, academics and researchers, designers, makers, artists, technicians, those working at home, in business and industry, education, archives, libraries and museums.
We welcome papers relating to the following themes which may offer contemporary or historical perspectives on knit in any time or place and which address knitted textiles in all their variety – from the home to the high street, from craft to couture:
- Heritage and tradition
- Creativity, design and inspiration
- Appropriation, adaptation
- Copyright and reinvention
- Growth and sustainability
- Local, global, glocal
- Luxury and everyday
- Fashion – catwalk and couture
We also invite proposals for poster presentations which summarise a research or community project from undergraduate and postgraduate students and early career researchers.
Abstracts should be no longer than 200 words and include full contact details and affiliation where appropriate. Send to Roslyn Chapman: email@example.com
Deadline 15 January 2015.
Co-organised by Linda Newington, Director of In the loop and the Knitting Reference Library, University of Southampton and Lynn Abrams and Marina Moskowitz, School of Humanities, University of Glasgow.
